Recipient Profile
We seek students who embody the Port to Promise vision. Successful candidates typically demonstrate:
- First or second-generation immigrant background.
- Current college sophomore or junior with a GPA of 3.2 or above.
- Strong interest in hospitality, tourism, or business management.
- Demonstrated leadership through community service or vocational achievement.
The Selection Process
Step 01
Application & Nomination
Eligible students may self-apply or be nominated by a faculty member by March 1st. Applications include essays on heritage and leadership goals.
Step 02
Review & Selection
Finalists are interviewed by our selection committee and Lakhani Hospitality leadership. Awards are announced in mid-April.
The Internship Experience
Awardees participate in a rotational program across key business departments, including Front of House Operations, Revenue Management, and Human Resources. This immersion ensures a holistic understanding of how world-class hospitality thrives from the inside out.
